Letra Trash

Maybe, maybe it¹s the clothes we wear,
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair,
Maybe it¹s our kookiness,
Or maybe, maybe it¹s our nowhere towns,
Our nothing places and our cellophane sounds,
Maybe it¹s our looseness,
But we¹re trash, you and me,
We¹re the litter on the breeze,
We¹re the lovers on the streets,
Just trash, me and you,
It¹s in everything we do,
It¹s in everything we do...
Maybe, maybe it¹s the things we say,
The words we¹ve heard and the music we play,
Maybe it¹s our cheapness,
Or maybe, maybe it¹s the times we¹ve had,
The lazy days and the crazes and the fads,
Maybe it¹s our sweetness,
But we¹re trash, you and me,
We¹re the litter on the breeze,
We¹re the lovers on the street,
Just trash, me and you,
It¹s in everything we do,
It¹s in everything we do...

Talvez sim, talvez ele ย น é a roupa que vestimos,
As pulseiras de mau gosto e da tintura no cabelo,
Talvez ย น o nosso kookiness,
Ou talvez, talvez ย น o nosso nowhere cidades,
Nossos lugares nada e nossos sons de celofane,
Talvez ย น a nossa folga,
Mas nós ย lixo re น, você e eu,
Nós ย น re o lixo na brisa,
Nós ย น re os amantes nas ruas,
Só lixo, eu e você,
É ย น s em tudo que fazemos,
É ย น s em tudo que fazemos ...
Talvez sim, talvez ele ย น s as coisas que dizemos,
As palavras que ย น e ouvi a música que tocamos,
Talvez ย น o nosso preço baixo,
Ou talvez, talvez ย น s as vezes que ย ve น tinha,
Os dias preguiçosos e manias e as modas passageiras,
Talvez ย น a nossa doçura,
Mas nós ย lixo re น, você e eu,
Nós ย น re o lixo na brisa,
Nós ย น re os amantes na rua,
Só lixo, eu e você,
É ย น s em tudo que fazemos,
É ย น s em tudo que fazemos ...

'Trash' is the first single from the album 'Coming Up' by Suede, released on July 29, 1996, on Nude Records. It is the first single in which all the songs on it were written without guitarist Bernard Butler, since Richard Oakes had taken his place. The single is tied with 'Stay Together' as the band's highest charting at number three; however, it outsold the earlier single, thus making it their biggest selling single. The song signified a dramatic change in the band's sound, as they went from gloomy and theatrical to glam-induced pop.

The video for the title song was filmed at Elstree Studios and directed by David Mould. Again it features the whole band playing in a crowded room. Yet this time, the people in the room as well as the setting are far more glamorous, as opposed to that of the video for 'New Generation.' The video also marks the first appearance of new band member, keyboardist Neil Codling.

Various meanings have been determined from the song, but the main themes seem to be about 'outsiders', being different but living well with it. In a interview in late 2009, for the SkyArts' Songbook series, Anderson said about the song: 'I actually wrote it about the band Suede. It's a celebration of the band, but by extension, it's a celebration of the fans as well. And it was a kind of a song written about us, as a gang, it was written about the values we stood for. And even though it sounds like a love song, it was actually about the idea of the identity of the band, and what they stood for.' The single version of 'Trash' charted at #3 on the UK Singles Chart in 1996. The song was the band's first overseas number one, hitting the top of the charts in Finland. A different version of the song appears of the group's 2003 compilation album 'Singles', where the vocals were re-recorded along with an alternative ending. All four of the singles B-sides were included on Suede's compilation 'Sci-Fi Lullabies', which was released the following year, although the version of 'Europe is our Playground' was a new version and not the original B-side version found here. 'Europe is Our Playground' also marks the songwriting debut of bassist Mat Osman.

A cover of Trash is featured on the 2009 album 'Rocket Science' by Norweigan electro-rock band Apoptygma Berzerk.
